I attended SA College for 1 1/2 years. Then transferred to SWTSU where I received my B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1974. My first teaching position was in 5th grade at Kirby Elementary, Judson ISD, 1974-1975. Met my wonderful husband, Alan, on a blind date, and we were married on June 28, 1975. Moved to his home town of Austin and taught 1st grade at Pease Elementary from 1976-1979.
Alison was born in August of 1979, then Kristin came along in August of 1981. I stayed home to be involved with our girls for 12 years. Enjoyed volunteering and being involved at church and our community and even played some golf and lots of tennis. A big bump in the road of our lives happened in 1985 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, I detected the lump early and I'll be celebrating my silver anniversary of being cancer free this summer!! Another bump in the road of life came when we lost our home to a house fire. Fortunately, it happened when we were not at home--sickening non-the-less. We rebuilt on the same site in Onion Creek. I returned to teaching 3rd grade at Menchaca Elementary (1991-1999) and the Reading Recovery Program(1999-2002). Alan and moved to Waco for 6 years where I worked as an instructional specialist at Kendrick Elementary in Waco ISD. We returned to the Austin area--actually Round Rock--2 years ago. I am now working as a reading specialist in the Leander ISD at Whitestone Elemenary and looking forward to retiring and traveling more in the near future.
Wow! 40 years sure went by in a flash and I loved almost every moment of those years spent with loving family, wonderful friends, and teaching lots of precious children! Still have great memories of Churchill and look forward to seeing lots of former classmates in October!!
Update: Retired in 2012 and enjoying more frequent visits to Belize and Nashville to be with my girls and their families.
